NJCDC Project To Be Funded By New Jersey Historic Trust

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

On February 25th, the New Jersey Historic Trust announced its recommended list for 2008 Historic Preservation Grants.  New Jersey Community Development Corporation’s (NJCDC) project to fully restore/rehabilitate the Rogers Locomotive Works Storage Building, located in the Great Falls National Historic Landmark District in Paterson, New Jersey, was included on this list. After an intense screening and application process, this project was granted $750,000, the maximum award for capital construction.

The full listing of projects must be approved before work can begin on the rehabilitiation of the Storage Building. The list of recommended sites will go before the Garden State Preservation Trust on March 11th for ratification and then move on to the Legislature for final approval. The Rogers Locomotive Works Storage Building was one of 60 projects at historic sites that were selected and would receive a total of over $15.5 million in funding.

NJCDC intends to convert the Rogers Storage Building into a Conference and Meeting Center to host community groups and visitors attracted by Alexander Hamilton’s vision of Paterson as our nation’s first planned industrial city. The timing of this project grant is significant, as it allows NJCDC to continue and grow its positive impact in the revitalization of the Historic District at the same time as the United States Congress prepares to designate the area a unit of the National Park Service in concert with the State of New Jersey’s plans to create a new urban state park.
