Monday, May 18th, 2009

On May 14th and 15th, two NJCDC teams competed in the North Jersey Robotics Competition at Passaic County Community College. The competition pitted 10 teams from Northern New Jersey against each other in three challenges: the sharpshooter, the trash collector and the obstacle course.

Students were given three months to assemble the robot and cater it to the various competition, which used air pressure, conveyer belts, and levers and pulleys. NJCDC entered two teams into the competition: one comprised of Garrett Morgan Academy students and one comprised of middle school students who participate in a Saturday technology program with GMA students and staff. Middle school students are not usually allowed to compete, but were given special permission due to the strong reputation of the Saturday program.

Both teams remained competitive throughout the two-day event, and the high school team was awarded both the Most Spirited Award and Best Sportsmanship.
