NJCDC Receives Increased Funding for Additional AmeriCorps Program
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009As part of the recent economic stimulus legislation, President Obama and the U.S. Congress committed over $200 million to promote national service as one of the ways of helping to renew the American economy.
Out of this total, $154 million was allocated to expand and strengthen the AmeriCorps National Service Program, a component of the Corporation for National and Community Service. New Jersey Community Development Corporation (NJCDC) currently administers an AmeriCorps program, which was the inaugural program upon the founding of NJCDC fifteen years ago. Due to its previous success in utilizing AmeriCorps members in the Paterson community, as well as the continued need for greater community development in the city, NJCDC applied for some of this stimulus funding to create an additional AmeriCorps Program in Paterson. We received word on May 19, 2009 that this application was approved.
NJCDC’s newest AmeriCorps Program will run from June 2009 through May 2010. It is a one year program with a requirement of 1700 hours community service hours to be completed by May 2010.
NJCDC is now accepting applications for this special program, whose start date will be in a few short weeks. Please click here to download an application and fax or email it to Denise Massey at 973-413-1640 or dmassey@njcdc.org if you would like to become part of this new class of AmeriCorps members. Please also help us spread the word about the opportunity, which is open to young people around the country – especially recent college graduates – who want to make a sustained difference in the community of Paterson, New Jersey.
