NJCDC Lobbies with NJ Advocacy Network to End Homelessness
Thursday, August 6th, 2009On Tuesday, July 28, members of the NJCDC Real Estate Team – Randi Moore, Frank Cinque, Jen Shukaitis, and Gray Smith – traveled to Washington, DC with Birch Arms Resident William Nazario to participate in a Congressional Reception with the New Jersey Advocacy Network to End Homelessness. The intention of the event was to bring together organizations and people from around the state to advocate in the Nation’s Capital for adequate funding and sound practices that will end homelessness.
The reception included homeless housing and service providers as well as homeless and formerly homeless individuals and families who spoke on the need for adequate funding and progressive policy on the federal level that will help end homelessness. Specifically, this group testified to the importance of additional funding for permanent housing for the homeless, using examples such as NJCDC’s Birch Arms to prove that this type of housing works.
Over 350 people were in attendance, including New Jersey Congressmen Rush Holt (D-12) and Leonard Lance (D-7). Will shared his story as one of the speakers at the reception.
Photos from the event can be found here, with photos of Will beginning at #122.
