Supporting Life
Monday, April 6th, 2009NJCDC has an extraordinary program for individuals with developmental disabilities know as the Supported Living Program. These individuals are able to enjoy living in the community in apartments of their choosing that they must maintain on their own.
One individual, Keisha, enjoys living in her three bedroom apartment with her two children. In the past Keisha did not have custody of her children, but due to the helpful intervention and guidance of NJCDC staff, Keisha is able to raise her thirteen year-old daughter and six year-old son with minimal assistance. Keisha continues to improve her parenting skills with the assistance of staff members and hopes to raise her children to understand the importance of helping others as they have been helped.
