AmeriCorps to Make DifferenceAmeriCorps is the bloodline of NJCDC. Our first program back in 1994, AmeriCorps allowed us to grow into an organization that now serves 3,000 children and families each and every day, creating opportunities to transform lives.

Twenty-three years later, we've graduated more than 500 members who have given over 680,000 hours of service through the program. NJCDC--and the impact we make in Paterson--would not be in existence if it were not for AmeriCorps.

We're now looking for dedicated individuals to join our AmeriCorps program, which we call the Paterson Community School Corps (PCSC). Full-time members will dedicate 1,700 service hours (900 service hours for part-time members) over one year to help eliminate barriers to academic achievement in Paterson at neighborhood schools and sites including the Community Charter School of Paterson, Full Service Community School 5, John F. Kennedy Educational Complex (where we operate our Compete for Life program), our Great Falls Teen Center at International High School, Great Falls YouthBuild, and our soon-to-opened Youth Center.

AmeriCorps to Make DifferenceThroughout the year, PCSC members provide daily instructional support to classroom teachers, offer individual assistance to students who need extra help, plan and implement daily after-school programming, conduct a variety of workshops, facilitate parental involvement, and design and lead community service projects, including food, clothing, and toy drives, community cleanups, and other neighborhood revitalization projects.

In return for their service, full-time PCSC members receive a living stipend, an education award of up to $5,815, federal loan forbearance, health insurance (including dental and vision care), personal and vacation time, and professional training and development. Part-time PCSC Members receive a living allowance and an education award of up to $2,229, in addition to personal and vacation time and professional development and training.

The complete job description is available here and interviews can be scheduled online.

NJCDC's CEO Bob Guarasci said, "We're proud to have the longest continuously running AmeriCorps program in the State of New Jersey. Please consider applying to join us in helping to build a better--and brighter--Paterson."
