It’s Graduation Season at NJCDC!

July 6, 2023

Each year, hundreds of students graduate from NJCDC's schools and programs! Throughout the month of June, we hold ceremonies and celebrations to commemorate this important milestone and to honor the students—and their families—for all of their hard work.

Paterson Family Center

On Monday, June 26, our Paterson Family Center Preschool (PFC) held its annual Moving Up Ceremony for its students. Forty-one students successfully moved from pre-K 3 to pre-K 4, and 59 students graduated from PFC and will be starting Kindergarten this coming school year. Each class held its own celebration, and students prepared musical performances for their families!

This fall, our pre-K 4 graduates will be starting Kindergarten at schools including the Community Charter School of Paterson (CCSP), Philip's Academy Charter School of Paterson, College Achieve, School #2, School #5, and John P. Holland Charter School.

Community Charter School of Paterson

Founded by NJCDC in 2008 as a K-3 school, CCSP is an independent public charter school that now serves more than 900 children in grades K-8.

On Tuesday, June 20, CCSP held a Moving Up Ceremony for its Kindergarten students. The ceremony was held at CCSP's Middle School Campus and celebrated the accomplishments of 100 students as they finished their first year of school.

The next day, CCSP held a Moving Up Ceremony for its 4th Grade students. So far in their educational journey, these students have been based at CCSP's Elementary School Campus; but next year, they will move to the Middle School Campus across the street. At this ceremony, held at the middle school, scholars and their families celebrated their learning and growth that has prepared them to enter middle school next year.

On the morning of June 20, CCSP also celebrated its 101 graduating 8th graders who will be moving on to high school next year. The ceremony was held at the Garrett Mountain Boat House on a gloriously sunny day. Scholars are eager to be starting high school in the fall, with students attending schools including International High School, JFK High School, Passaic County Technical Institute (PCTI), Paterson Arts & Science Charter School, Eastside High School, Rosa L. Parks School of Fine & Performing Arts, Paramus Catholic, and DePaul Catholic High School.

Paterson Youth Council

The Paterson Youth Council (PYC) is a yearlong leadership development program for 30 Paterson high school students. Throughout the year, members participate in a variety of programming—including civic engagement, college readiness, community services, and financial literacy—that prepares them to advocate for themselves and their community.

On Tuesday, June 20th, the PYC held its graduation ceremony to celebrate all that the students accomplished over the past year. Each student who successfully completed the program received a $500 scholarship, as well as certificates from the New Jersey State Legislature, the Mayor of Paterson's Office, and Congressman Bill Pascrell. Ten PYC graduates also completed high school this year and will be attending a variety of colleges in the fall, including Georgetown University, Temple University, Rutgers University, Montclair State University, William Paterson University, Kean University, SUNY New Paltz, Monmouth University, and Passaic County Community College.

NJCDC's Founder and CEO, Bob Guarasci, said "I am grateful to all of our teachers and staff who have worked hard to help our students succeed. It is so important to celebrate all of our students for their hard work and recognize their families for their support. Congratulations to all of our students! I can't wait to see what you accomplish next!
