Mrs. Marilyn Clark Receives the Key to the City of Paterson

March 31, 2023

A couple of years ago, Mrs. Marilyn Clark reached out to NJCDC to see how she could support our work serving the children and families of Paterson. She ultimately donated $1 million to be used on the expansion of our Great Falls Youth Center, which each day serves a hundred students during afterschool hours. This expansion includes a new building that will house a College Central program, giving Paterson youth the support and resources needed to get into and succeed in higher education. It will also include a new multipurpose room and a podcast studio. Thanks to Mrs. Clark's support, we were able to break ground on this project this past September and look forward to having the new space open in September 2023 for the beginning of the next school year.

Mrs. Clark has also made generous donations to other causes in Paterson. Last December, she donated $600,000 to the Friends of Paterson Parks for the renovation of Lester A. Titus Field. This field, adjacent to the Dr. Frank Napier, Jr. School of Technology, has long been dilapidated and unsafe for the school to use. With the donation from Mrs. Clark, the city recently began construction and rehabilitation work to make the field usable again. When the field is revitalized, it will provide more safe open space for not only these students, but also for all of the other children in the neighborhood and throughout the city.

And so on March 29, Mayor Andre Sayegh awarded Mrs. Clark with a Key to the City to recognize her "generous heart" and her "magnanimous contributions to our youth in the City of Paterson." The Mayor applauded Mrs. Clark—who was also joined by her brother and son—for the important work she has supported through her generous donations to revitalize Paterson.

It is such a privilege for me to support Paterson," said Mrs. Clark when she accepted the Key to the City. "I'm so grateful that I'm able to do this, and so appreciate the opportunity of supporting one of the treasures of New Jersey.

Bob Guarasci, NJCDC's CEO, stated "The Mayor is right to recognize Marilyn Clark for her generous heart and commitment to help the children of Paterson. It is beyond inspiring to witness her spirit of generosity."

Thank you, Mrs. Clark!
