On Monday, August 28, we held our 15th Annual 'Fore the Kids' Golf Outing at the prestigious and historic Glen Ridge Country Club. Started back in 2009, every year our Golf Outing raises crucial funding that directly supports our cradle-to-college pipeline of programs and services for Paterson youth. And thanks to our generous donors and supporters, we raised nearly $110,000 to support our vision that all 8,000 children living or going to school in the neighborhood we serve — Paterson's Great Falls Neighborhood — will graduate from high school ready for college and a successful career!

Thanks to some unpredictable weather last summer, this year's golf outing ended up being the second one we held recently. Even so, our golfers were excited to come out again and support our work while enjoying a day of golf! The day began with a delicious breakfast for them to enjoy before the golfing began at 9:30 a.m. All of the golfers then gathered to hear kick-off remarks from NJCDC's Chief Development Officer, Parshu Shah. After he wished them luck with their playing, a shotgun blast signaled the beginning of the tournament.

The golfers enjoyed a long morning and afternoon playing on Glen Ridge's 18-hole course, which is often described as "a challenge equal to its beauty." Golfers then gathered back at the clubhouse for cocktails and lunch. While guests ate, they enjoyed a slideshow of photos taken throughout the day and heard brief remarks from NJCDC's Founder and CEO, Bob Guarasci.

"Each and every day we serve 4,000 young people and families in the city of Paterson," he said, thanking the guests for their support of our work. "The City of Paterson is a great city, but it's not without its challenges. And so each and every dollar helps us to do our work and make a difference." Bob also mentioned some of NJCDC's recent successes, including receiving a $1 million grant from the Regional Foundation and cutting the ribbon on Barclay Place Apartments, which was developed in partnership with St. Joseph's Health and CAPC and provides 56 units of affordable "healthy home" housing for hard-working Paterson residents.

We then announced the day's winners, including the best overall team and the winners of the Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive contests. We also announced the winner of our 50/50 raffle, who happened to be our bartender! A few of our guests who had to leave early for the airport had generously given him their tickets before leaving.

Afterward, guests were invited to stay, socialize, and enjoy some delicious desserts, including ice cream and waffles!
