NJCDC Holds Its 9th Annual Block Party

November 3, 2023

On Saturday, October 21, NJCDC held our 9th annual Great Falls Neighborhood Block Party, in celebration of the neighborhood — and residents — we serve. More than 1,000 neighborhood residents attended the free event throughout the day, where they had the opportunity to play carnival games, climb on inflatables, win raffle prizes, meet with community organizations, and more!

This year, we held the Block Party in the Community Charter School of Paterson's Middle School Gymnasium. Inside the gym, we set up inflatables for children of all ages to play on, including a giant inflatable slide and a Sesame Street bouncy house. Guests also enjoyed listening to lively music played by DJ Cito. When not playing on the inflatables, they also got to have fun with activities like jump ropes and hula hoops, with games and fun exercises led by Coach Marcos from Intel Soccer Club. In addition, Irma from Full Body Fitness led dance and Zumba classes throughout the day. We even celebrated Halloween a bit early with festive temporary tattoos for attendees!

In a covered area outdoors, children and families got to play carnival games and meet with local community organizations. Several groups, including the Paterson Public Library, Paterson Recycling, Paterson Community Policing, Servant's Heart, St Joseph's Health, Valley Bank, the New Jersey Department of Health, the Health Coalition of Passaic County, and the Passaic County Sheriff's Office set up tables and shared information about the free services they can provide to neighborhood residents. We also had a table where guests could learn about our many programs, including the Neighborhood Help Center, NJ4S Passaic County, AmeriCorps, the Great Falls Youth Center, and the Financial Empowerment Center.

We also welcomed the Paterson Fire Department's Smokehouse, where children and families learned how to safely respond to a fire in their own homes. We always offer free food at the Block Party, and this year was no exception. Guests enjoyed hot dogs, grilled by ShopRite of Passaic, as well as freshly popped popcorn and a variety of other snacks.

We ended the day with drawings for several raffle prizes, which everyone who attended was able to enter. Lucky winners received a variety of toys for children of all ages!

NJCDC Founder & CEO Bob Guarasci said, "This is my favorite day of the year — NJCDC's Annual Block Party — where hundreds of neighborhood residents come out, our charter school students, students from our schools, and friends from all corners of the Great Falls Neighborhood!
