NJCDC Welcomes New Board Chair Martin Vergara

December 4, 2023

In September, NJCDC announced a changing of the guard, as board member Martin Vergara stepped up to the role of Board Chair after Don Buckley concluded eight years of dedicated service in the role.

A born-and-bred Patersonian, Martin Vergara is the Global Head of Talent Acquisition for Morgan Stanley. In his role, he is responsible for business strategy, budget management, operations, marketing, and recruiting effectiveness for all experienced and campus recruiting efforts, globally. Prior to this role, Martin spent time in various producing and managerial capacities within Morgan Stanley's Wealth Management Division. He also served as COO for several organizations, including Corporate Services & Global Centers, Private Wealth Management and Firmwide Marketing.

Outside of work, Martin is dedicated to giving back to his hometown of Paterson, where he currently lives with his wife Deniz and two children, Ayla and Hart. He serves as Board Chairman for the Hamilton Partnership for Paterson and serves on the boards of the NJ Institute for Social Justice, DePaul Catholic High School, and Brilla Charter School.

As a Paterson native, Martin has witnessed the importance of NJCDC services from a young age, as well as how these efforts have increased in scope. Speaking at NJCDC's 29th Anniversary Gala, Martin reflected on how, "We've grown to serve more than 4,000 children and families every day...92 cents of every dollar goes directly to our programs and services. The board could not be prouder of the tremendous work we've done to transform the neighborhood and, importantly, transform the lives of these children and families.

Back in high school, Martin was drafted during his senior year by the Cleveland Indians Baseball Club in the 15th Round. He decided not to go pro and instead enrolled at the University of Notre Dame as a student-athlete, pitching for the baseball team and graduating with a B.A. in Finance. Martin also holds an MBA from Columbia University.

NJCDC Founder & CEO Bob Guarasci said, "We look forward to Martin's leadership in the coming years, and we thank Don for his many years of selfless service."
