NJCDC operates the Paterson Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) in partnership with the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund and the City of Paterson's Office of Financial Empowerment. The Paterson FEC—the only financial empowerment center in the state—provides free, one-on-one financial counseling to all Paterson residents. Based on a model established by Michael Bloomberg in New York City over a decade ago, financial empowerment centers aim to provide comprehensive support to help low- and moderate-income residents achieve financial stability.

The Paterson FEC provides support on a broad range of financial topics, including reducing and managing debt, establishing and building credit, opening a bank account, creating a budget, buying a house, and more.
