On Monday, June 10, we held our 16th Annual ‘Fore the Kids’ Golf Outing at the historic Glen Ridge Country Club. NJCDC’s first Golf Outing was held in 2009, and every year, the event raises vital funds to support our cradle-to-college pipeline of programs and services for Paterson youth and families. This year, thanks to our generous donors and supporters, we raised over $100,000 to support our vision that all 8,000 children living or going to school in Paterson’s Great Falls Neighborhood will graduate from high school ready for college and a career.
Our golfers arrived early in the morning, excited for a day on Glen Ridge Country Club’s beautiful course. After a delicious breakfast, our players gathered on the greens at 9:30 a.m. We then wished them luck with the tournament, before a shotgun blast signaled the start of play.
Following a long morning and afternoon playing on the 18-hole course, the golfers gathered back at the clubhouse to enjoy cocktail hour. Golfers then enjoyed a delicious lunch and viewed a slideshow of pictures taken throughout the day. NJCDC’s Founder and CEO Bob Guarasci also delivered some brief remarks.
“Your support helps us to do our work in Paterson serving 4,000 children and families every day,” said Bob. “My team and I work hard every day because we have to — the needs in Paterson are enormous. And as I tell my team, we never want to look back and say, ‘We should have done more,’ and so we do more, each and every day.” He then shared some of our new successes over the past year, including Barclay Place, with 56 units of affordable housing for residents with chronic health conditions and built in partnership with St. Joseph’s Health and CAPC; the NJ4S Passaic County Hub, which has provided vital mental health services to over 10,000 Passaic County youth; an expansion to our Great Falls Youth Center; an upcoming project to transform an abandoned building into new housing; and more.
Then, Martin Vergara, Chairman of NJCDC’s Board of Trustees thanked the golfers for attending, and for their ongoing support of NJCDC’s work, before we announced the winners of the day’s contests, including the best overall team, the Longest Drive, and the Closest to the Pin. Each winner received certificates to use at the club’s Pro Shop. We also announced the winners of our 50/50 raffle. The first place winner generously donated his half back to NJCDC, and the second place winner received a certificate for a foursome and lunch at Glen Ridge Country Club!
After the program, guests were invited to stay and socialize, and to enjoy dessert — including ice cream and waffles! Throughout the afternoon, guests also had the opportunity to enjoy freshly rolled cigars from Fumé Cigar Shop in Montclair.
