Barclay Place

Growing evidence shows that socioeconomic factors—persistent poverty, food insecurity, subpar or unsafe housing—have a major impact on a person's overall health. NJCDC's newest affordable housing development, Barclay Place Apartments aims to comprehensively address these social determinants of health to create a healthier community in Paterson.

In partnership with New Jersey's largest Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), New Jersey Community Capital, and Paterson's flagship health system, St. Joseph's Health—and located only a few hundred feet from the hospital—Barclay provides 56 units of affordable housing, as well as an on-site wellness hub on the building's first floor. The wellness hub has office spaces for community partners to provide services, including health and wellness workshops and referrals to healthcare providers.

Barclay is the first development completed under the State of New Jersey's new Hospital Housing Partnership Program, and was made possible with funding and support from a variety of partners, including St. Joseph's Health, New Jersey Community Capital, the NJHMFA, Arc Building Partners, Enterprise Community Partners, the New Jersey Hospital Association, TD Bank, and Thriven Design.
